Djurgården IF experienced mixed results in early SHL matchups. In late September, the team suffered a 4–0 defeat against Färjestad BK at the Avicii Arena, a match where spectators began leaving the arena in large numbers during the final minutes.

By late October, the team secured a 3–2 overtime victory against Luleå HF at Coop Norrbotten Arena. Despite being outshot 37–13, Djurgården relied on 35 saves from goaltender Magnus Hellberg and an overtime goal by Charles Hudon to win the game.
