The 83rd Venice International Film Festival and various Italian regional screenings are highlighting diverse documentary subjects and industry initiatives.

Early programming includes the documentary ‘Ballata femmenella’, which examines the history and culture of the transgender community in Naples, and ‘Anita delle Amazzoni’, a film chronicling the life of circus figure Anita Gambarutti Orfei.

As the festival continues, the focus expands to include ‘Le Voci di Marcinelle’, which commemorates 262 miners who died in the Bois du Cazier mine. The documentary ‘La Nobile Arte’, directed by Vincenzo Lamagna, is scheduled for presentation as part of the Venice Production Bridge program. Produced by Nexting in collaboration with Rai Documentari, the film explores 110 years of Italian boxing history through ten symbolic rounds covering themes such as social redemption, female boxing, and ParaBoxe.

The festival also features the world premiere of the short film ‘Puca’ by Sara Scalera during International Critics Week (SIC@SIC). Set in the 1990s, the film is a coming-of-age story following three sisters. Additionally, the event serves as a platform for regional film commissions and industry showcases, such as the ‘Roma e Lazio Days’ and participation from the Lecco Film Fest and the city of Riccione to promote audiovisual production and the future of cinema.
