In late 2026, separate incidents involving dead dolphins entangled in fishing nets were reported in Greece.

On September 20, a dolphin weighing approximately 140 kilograms was found in the Thermaic Gulf at the port of Thessaloniki. The Hellenic Coast Guard and municipal employees managed the removal and sanitary burial of the carcass.

On October 10, a similar discovery occurred on Kamares Beach in Sifnos, where local residents and visitors found a dolphin entangled in nets. Authorities, including the Port Authority and the Municipality of Sifnos, coordinated the removal of the animal in accordance with health regulations. These incidents underscore the risks that fishing gear poses to marine life.
