A conference is scheduled for September 9 at the Camera dei Deputati in Rome to discuss the attribution of an ‘Ecce Homo’ painting to the 17th-century Italian master Domenichino (Domenico Zampieri). 

The artwork, currently located at the Museo Diocesano di Melfi, was identified as a Domenichino following three months of stylistic study led by art critic Mauro Di Ruvo. The painting is dated between 1639 and 1640, representing the artist’s final creative period. Experts will evaluate the work’s authorship, dating, and conservation. Di Ruvo noted that the painting’s muted colors and less defined forms may be due to the artist’s declining health or historical restorations. If the attribution is confirmed, it would be the only known painting by Domenichino dedicated to this specific iconographic subject.
