The Dominican Republic Senate, in coordination with the Chamber of Deputies, the Attorney General’s Office, and the Organization of American States (OAS), has initiated efforts to reform national drug and synthetic substance legislation.

During a workshop in Santo Domingo titled ‘Challenges and Obstacles in Drug Legislation in the Dominican Republic’, Senate President Ricardo de los Santos highlighted the necessity of updated regulations to combat organized crime, noting that criminal groups are rapidly advancing through the use of technological bases. This legislative movement follows agreements made during a congress in Washington intended to foster collaborative efforts against the threats of drug trafficking and consumption.
