The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) has implemented several programs to enhance sports instruction and teacher competency in the Dominican Republic.

In late October 2026, INEFI launched practical athletics clinics in Santo Domingo. Led by Executive Director Alberto Rodríguez Mella, these workshops aim to provide physical education teachers with technical tools to promote athletics in schools as part of a national talent detection and development program. The training, held at the School Sports Initiation Center (CIDE) of the Hogar Escuela Santo Domingo Savio, featured instruction from coach José Ludwing Rubio, technician Jorge Montes, and champion Liranyi Alonso. This pilot project seeks to identify and develop the sporting capabilities of children and adolescents through inclusive activities.

Concurrently, INEFI held its twelfth annual gala at the Barceló Hotel in Santo Domingo to present the ‘Medalla al Mérito Magisterial en Educación Física 2025-2026’, honoring 23 teachers nationwide for professional excellence. During the ceremony, Rodríguez Mella emphasized the importance of sports training within the ‘Tanda Extendida’ (Extended School Day) framework, stating that comprehensive education must provide opportunities for physical, sporting, and recreational activities to support emotional and social growth. He also noted the progress of the ‘Aulas de Motricidad’ (Motricity Classrooms) initiative, a project based on neuroscience that has been implemented for two years to support psychomotor development in early childhood education.
