Dominican Republic officials and industry associations report that domestic poultry production is sufficient to meet consumer demand for the upcoming Christmas holiday season.

Initially, Eddy Alcántara, executive director of Pro Consumidor, stated that chicken prices had remained stable for ten months, ranging between RD$79 and RD$84 per pound. He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture had reduced import permits to support local producers, who could use stored products as collateral for financing to manage overproduction risks.

By late October, reports indicated that abundant production led to lower prices in Greater Santo Domingo markets, with costs ranging between RD$70 and RD$85 per pound. The Dominican Poultry Association reported monthly national production averaging over 21.5 million chickens. To manage surpluses, the Ministry of Agriculture announced an intervention to pledge eight million pounds of chicken for temporary storage to stabilize the market.

To further increase protein accessibility, the Institute of Price Stabilization (INESPRE) has utilized mobile warehouses and producer markets to offer frozen chicken at lower price points, ranging from RD$33 to RD$50 per pound. INESPRE Director David Herrera Díaz stated that the institution distributes approximately 150,000 pounds of chicken weekly through these programs to bypass intermediary costs. In October, INESPRE conducted 269 Producer Markets and 663 Mobile Warehouse operations, including participation in regional events such as Expo Agro Ocoa 2026 and the Festival de los Mil Ríos in Elias Piña. Industry groups, including the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA) and the Association of Independent Poultry Producers (ASOPROIN), have affirmed that current production levels are sufficient to meet holiday demand.
