Sources: 5. Developments: 2. Hungarian national football team captain Dominik Szoboszlai has entered into a conflict with media outlets over reporting accuracy. The tension began after Szoboszlai criticized journalists for publishing inaccurate information regarding a joke made during an interview with Steven Gerrard. He stated he would refuse to speak with reporters who “put him in a difficult position” or report “untruths about him.” The situation escalated following a Nations League match between Hungary and Northern Ireland. While Szoboszlai expressed frustration with Hungarian sports media for what he perceived as exploitative coverage, he also faced international scrutiny. The Irish Times criticized his performance during the 0-0 draw in Belfast, noting that his most notable action was “taunting the Windsor Park crowd.” Media analysts remain divided on the matter, debating whether Szoboszlai is rightfully demanding factual accuracy or if his threat to boycott certain journalists could damage the relationship between athletes and the press. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Dominik Szoboszlai faces media criticism and press tension Dominik Szoboszlai faces criticism from the Irish press following a scoreless draw in Belfast and has threatened to boycott Hungarian media outlets over concerns regarding misleading reporting. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dominik-szoboszlai-faces-media-criticism-and-press-tension ### 2026-09-23: Dominik Szoboszlai criticizes journalists over inaccurate reporting Hungary captain Dominik Szoboszlai criticized journalists for spreading inaccuracies and urged for more positive media coverage of athletes ahead of the national team's Nations League match. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/dominik-szoboszlai-criticizes-inaccurate-media-reporting --- Cite as: Dominik Szoboszlai media relations controversy.
