Dong Nai FC is facing a severe crisis during the 2026-2027 V.League season following a 0-4 defeat against Nam Dinh in round 5. The newly promoted club sits at the bottom of the standings with only one point earned from five matches.

The team has set two negative historical records: being the first team to fail to score a single goal in the first five matches of a season and holding the lowest goal difference of -10. These struggles were compounded by the absence of star striker and captain Nguyen Cong Phuong due to a sudden muscle injury, alongside injuries to key players Ivan Andrei and Ngoc Lam.

In the wake of the loss and an early elimination from the National Cup, head coach Nguyen Viet Thang has expressed his intention to discuss his future with club leadership, suggesting he may resign to allow for team renewal.
