The company unveiled DoorDash Air, an end-to-end drone delivery system featuring a custom six-propeller aircraft and an Autonomous Delivery Platform to manage routing. This system is intended for light and small restaurant orders and is slated for pilot programs in Northern California. Alongside hardware developments, DoorDash introduced AI-driven consumer tools, including a text-based ordering agent for iOS users that interprets natural language. However, during a third-quarter earnings call, CEO Tony Xu reported that the company has seen minimal engagement from third-party AI agents, noting only several hundred orders compared to a daily average of approximately 3 million deliveries. While most users continue to use the official app, the company is exploring advertising and agentic use cases within the broader commerce landscape. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-29: DoorDash reports minimal orders from AI agents DoorDash CEO Tony Xu reports that third-party AI agents have accounted for only several hundred orders, compared to 3 million daily deliveries. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doordash-reports-minimal-orders-from-ai-agents ### 2026-09-30: DoorDash unveils drone delivery system and AI text-ordering DoorDash has unveiled DoorDash Air, a drone delivery system for pilot programs in Northern California, alongside an AI-powered text-to-order feature for Apple Messages and new restaurant management tools. 22 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/doordash-introduces-ai-ordering-and-retail-return-services --- Cite as: DoorDash technological expansion and AI integration.
