The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has conducted multiple operations targeting international gold-smuggling syndicates in India.

In early September, DRI officials at the Mumbai Air Cargo Complex intercepted a consignment from Hong Kong, discovering 691.870 grams of 24-carat gold concealed within a treadmill motor. This operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, including a Chinese national.

Subsequent operations saw larger seizures, including 3.5 kg of gold dust valued at approximately Rs 5.5 crore at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai, leading to the arrest of four people, including airport staff. Additionally, the DRI Nagpur team intercepted a passenger on a train carrying 2.165 kg of gold bars valued at roughly Rs 3.09 crore, which was allegedly smuggled via the India-Bangladesh border.
