Following several months of below-average precipitation, the organization reduced water discharge from the Wuppertal reservoirs to approximately 3,000 liters per second at the Kluserbrücke gauge, a reduction of 14–15% intended to preserve supplies through September 2026.

Rainfall levels in areas such as Hückeswagen and Leverkusen were significantly below historical averages. This lack of precipitation, combined with high sunshine hours and increased evaporation rates, has further strained the river ecosystem and reservoir capacities.
