Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reported significant developments regarding infrastructure maintenance and driver licensing in 2026.

Regarding infrastructure, the RTA stated that approximately 95 per cent of the emirate’s road network assets are rated as ‘excellent’. To sustain these levels, the authority is utilizing automated systems and smart preventive maintenance for asphalt, bridges, and tunnels. The RTA also noted a safety milestone of zero traffic fatalities near Dubai schools since 2010, while issuing reminders to parents regarding safe school zone drop-offs.

In terms of licensing, the RTA issued 119,188 driving licences during the first half of 2026, driven by population growth and economic activity. To manage this demand, the authority is integrating artificial intelligence, smart sensors, and advanced driving simulators into its training and assessment processes to ensure objective evaluations and improved driver response to hazardous conditions.
