The Dussehra festival, also known as Vijayadashami, is scheduled for October 20, 2026. Religious traditions for the occasion include Shastra Puja, the ritual worship of weapons, and the worship of Goddess Aparajita to seek strength and overcome obstacles.

Observances involve seeking blessings from Goddess Durga and Lord Rama through various spiritual practices, such as chanting specific mantras or offering fruits to aid career success. In certain regions like Karnataka, celebrations are noted to occur on October 21. Beyond spiritual rituals, the festival is also framed as a time for personal improvement, specifically regarding the renunciation of negative financial habits and the avoidance of debt and unverified investment advice.

Shastra Puja, which symbolizes the fight against injustice and the protection of righteousness, is linked to Goddess Durga’s battle against the demon Mahishasura and the legend of the Pandavas retrieving weapons from a Shami tree. For 2026, the Dashami Tithi is expected to begin on October 20 at 12:50 PM and conclude on October 21 at 2:11 PM. Auspicious windows for Shastra Puja include a Vijay Muhurat on October 20 from 1:59 PM to 2:45 PM, and a period on October 21 from 1:14 PM to 3:30 PM.
