In late August 2026, the Dutch municipalities of Dalfsen and Hulst initiated searches for new child mayors for the 2026-2027 school year. These positions are designed to allow children to represent their peers and participate in community events and official commemorations.

By late September 2026, other municipalities, Zwijndrecht and Barendrecht, completed their installations. In Zwijndrecht, 10-year-old Berat was inaugurated alongside five child ambassadors to discuss the living environment and youth meeting places with the mayor. In Barendrecht, Jasmijn Schuurmans assumed the role to advocate for children’s rights to sports and play while performing ceremonial duties.
