The Dutch railway operator NS has announced that train ticket prices and most subscriptions will increase by an average of 4.7 percent starting January 1, 2027. The operator stated the hike is necessary to fund new trains, cover rising operational costs, and invest in infrastructure. The adjustment includes a 1 percent ‘catch-up indexation’ to address under-compensation from the 2020–2023 period.

To mitigate the impact on passengers, NS is expanding its ‘PrijsTijdDeal’ discounts, which will offer up to 80 percent off during off-peak hours and will be available via the app on the actual day of travel. Pricing for children and youth, such as the Railrunner ticket and the Kids Vrij program, will remain unchanged.

The travelers' organization Rover has criticized the decision, noting that the increase exceeds inflation. Rover director Daan Zieren described the new minimum fare of 3.10 euros for short trips as ‘unnecessary and discouraging,’ expressing concern that the price hikes may hinder passenger growth.
