Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have issued warnings regarding deceptive e-commerce and livestream sales tactics. Officials noted that fraudulent sellers use high-pressure language and sophisticated counterfeit packaging, logos, and QR codes to mislead consumers. In the first eight months of the year, market surveillance authorities handled 826 cases involving counterfeit or smuggled goods on social media and e-commerce platforms, seizing over 220,000 products valued at nearly 19 billion VND.

Following these broader warnings, police prosecuted Le Ngoc Hien and Phan Thi Thanh Vy for the illegal sale of counterfeit Havaianas flip-flops through an online business known as Tieu Vi House. A raid on a warehouse in Hoc Mon commune resulted in the seizure of more than 11,000 pairs of counterfeit sandals, with an estimated value exceeding 7.3 billion VND. The suspects face charges of ‘trafficking in counterfeit goods’.

Efforts to combat intellectual property infringement have since intensified. During an unannounced inspection in Tay Thanh Ward, market surveillance authorities seized over 1.2 tons of counterfeit knit fabrics bearing the Chanel brand. The shipment, valued at approximately 72.9 million VND, featured brand names printed directly onto the fabric and lacked legal origin documentation.

In response to increasingly sophisticated trademark infringement, the Ho Chi Minh City Market Surveillance Department has organized professional training for enforcement officers to improve their ability to distinguish genuine products from fakes, particularly as violations shift toward online platforms.
