Various ecological restoration initiatives are being implemented in Hungary to combat invasive species and restore natural habitats. In the Tihany region, the Balatonalmádi municipality and the Tihany Limnological Research Institute are partnering on a pilot project to replace artificial concrete shore protection with natural, sandy, and gradually deepening structures to restore the Lake Balaton ecosystem.

Efforts to manage invasive species include the removal of approximately 1.5 tons of invasive dwarf perch from the Keleti-Bozót canal, also known as the Fonyód trench, using specialized electric fishing equipment. Additionally, a large-scale reforestation project is underway on Nyáros Island within the Táti island group. Through a collaboration involving Pilisi Parkerdő, the Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate, and the North Transdanubian Water Management Directorate, 76,500 native saplings have been planted. This project aims to transform the island's degraded, gravelly surface into a soft-wooded riparian forest by 2030, utilizing cattle to assist in managing invasive plant species.

In a separate environmental effort, the North Hungarian Water Management Directorate has completed the removal of over 2,000 tons of invasive water primrose from the Bodrog River near Sárospatak to protect water quality and biodiversity.
