In late July 2026, Ecuador’s Ministry of Environment officially designated a 173,000-hectare ecological corridor linking Yasuní National Park, Limoncocha Biological Reserve, and the Cuyabeno Production Reserve. The corridor integrates protected areas, indigenous territories (including Siona, Siekopai, and Kichwa), and sustainable production zones to safeguard biodiversity, including the pink river dolphin, harpy eagle, and jaguar. Complementary financing includes US$21 million and US$16 million lines from the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) to support bio-economy and green production.

In August 2026, the government under President Daniel Noboa introduced new technical regulations to improve the management and governance of the nation's forests. Developed through a participatory process with local communities and civil society, these regulations establish criteria for the zoning, planning, monitoring, and administration of more than 2.2 million hectares across 184 protected forests and vegetation areas. This regulatory framework aims to strengthen the protection of natural resources and promote sustainable development through coordinated management.
