In mid‑July, Guayaquil’s municipal public works department accelerated its road‑maintenance program, operating 20 active work fronts to fill potholes, resurface asphalt and reconstruct concrete on major avenues across the city. The effort was aimed at improving traffic flow, safety and the longevity of the road network.

By the end of July, the scope expanded to a coordinated, city‑wide rehabilitation initiative. Quito’s Metropolitan Public Mobility and Public Works Company announced a phased program beginning 1 August, targeting nine streets near Metro stations with partial closures and alternate routes. Simultaneously, Guayaquil opened a tender to rebuild Tungurahua Street, a heavily used corridor, with a US$9.6 million budget financed by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. The project will include resurfacing, drainage upgrades, modern lighting, buried telecoms, bike lanes and tree planting, with expropriations already underway.
