The 2026-2027 academic year for the Sierra-Amazonía region has officially commenced, following a staggered entry model that began on September 1. This phased approach aims to manage the return of approximately 1.7 million students into more than 6,700 public institutions. In the realm of higher education, the government has launched the ‘Talento Joven’ national scholarship program. With an investment exceeding USD 1.8 million, the initiative will provide 3,200 students enrolled in public universities and polytechnic schools with a one-time payment of USD 569.23 to cover living expenses such as food, housing, and transportation. The program incorporates affirmative action to prioritize vulnerable groups, including women victims of gender-based violence, persons with permanent disabilities, high-performance athletes, and members of indigenous nationalities. Applications for this scholarship are open from September 3 to September 13, 2026.
