Ecuadorian representatives are participating in the 2026 World Food Forum at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, from October 12 to 16.

The delegation includes youth representatives Carlos Adrián Peña Ponce and Nu Amaru Sáenz, supported by the Futuros Urbanos program. Their participation occurs as projections suggest 2.6 million people in Ecuador could face food crises or emergencies between August and November 2026.

Representing President Daniel Noboa, Vice President María José Pinto is also attending the forum to promote international cooperation, investment, and strategic alliances aimed at improving food security and child nutrition. During the event, Pinto highlighted the economic empowerment of women within the agrifood value chain. She noted that through initiatives such as ‘Agro Violeta’ and ‘Emprende Violeta’, more than 2,000 women have accessed over USD 7 million in financing this year to bolster their economic autonomy, a factor she emphasized as vital for community well-being and the prevention of chronic childhood malnutrition.
