The 35th Servus Edmonton Marathon faced controversy regarding the accuracy of its course measurements. Initially, race officials and Athletics Canada defended the course, asserting it had been professionally measured and certified. They attributed discrepancies reported by runners via GPS devices to factors such as signal drift and construction-related detours.

However, organizers later issued an apology and admitted the marathon and half-marathon courses were approximately 674 to 675 metres longer than intended. The error was attributed to a miscalculation during course adjustments made to accommodate a bridge detour.

Despite the measurement error, the event saw historic performances, including new course records in both the men’s and women’s races. The organization is currently coordinating with Athletics Canada to address how the results will be handled, particularly as the race serves as a qualifying event for major competitions like the Boston Marathon.
