The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is conducting multiple high-profile fraud prosecutions involving aviation assets and government contracts in Nigeria.

In a Lagos State trial involving former Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) Managing Director Ahmed Kuru and others, a witness testified that the receivership of Arik Air was “fraudulent and faulty” because it was based on non-existent debt to Union Bank of Nigeria Plc. Further testimony alleged that Arik Air assets valued at N4.9 billion were diverted to fund NG Eagle Airlines, which was later sold for approximately N149 million. The defendants in this case face charges including conspiracy, stealing, and abuse of office related to an alleged N76 billion and $31.5 million fraud.

In a separate proceeding at an Abuja High Court, the EFCC is prosecuting former Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, his daughter Fatima, and his son-in-law Hamman Jalal Sule. The group faces a six-count charge involving abuse of office and contract fraud totaling N2.8 billion related to Al Buraq Global Investment Limited.
