Egypt has maintained its World Health Organization (WHO) Gold Tier status on the path toward eliminating Hepatitis C. This recognition follows a review of national achievements between 2023 and 2025.

Since 2008, the country has seen infection rates drop from approximately 10 percent to less than 0.38 percent. Key drivers of this decline include the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative, which screened over 60 million people and provided treatment to millions of patients. Recent efforts between 2023 and 2025 expanded screening to an additional 16.5 million people and increased diagnostic coverage to 87.3 percent, contributing to a 54 percent decrease in Hepatitis C related deaths compared to 2018 levels.

The nation has transitioned from large scale, campaign based screening to a sustainable, integrated health system approach. This strategy focuses on routine case finding, diagnosis, treatment, surveillance, and prevention, supported by the 2025–2030 National Sustainability Plan for Viral Hepatitis.
