The Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity is implementing various programs aimed at supporting vulnerable populations through both direct assistance and long-term economic development.

Initially, the ministry expanded the ‘Farhat Misr’ initiative to assist underprivileged young men and women with marriage preparations. Following this, the ministry introduced a ‘Strategic Financial System for Economic Empowerment’ to foster self-reliance. This includes the ‘Qaderoon Bekhtelaf’ Fund for persons with disabilities and the ‘Rural and Environmental Industries Support Fund’ to reduce poverty in needy areas.

Minister of Social Solidarity Dr. Maya Morsy has recently emphasized the evolving role of civil society, noting that approximately 36,000 active associations now serve as a “fundamental component of the national development and social protection system.” She highlighted a transition toward an organized system governed by Law No. 149 of 2019, focusing on community support, development partnerships, governance, and transparency.

To further economic empowerment and inclusion, Minister Morsy met with the Arab Businesswomen Council to discuss humanitarian partnerships and women’s economic empowerment. During these discussions, she noted the Egyptian Red Crescent’s provision of over one million tons of relief aid to the Gaza Strip since October 2023.

Additionally, the ‘Qaderoon Bekhtelaf’ Fund has signed cooperation protocols with the Sawiris Foundation to expand economic, educational, and social opportunities for persons with disabilities, including participation in ‘Diyaruna’ handicraft exhibitions. A separate protocol with the Sawiris Foundation and the El Gouna Film Festival aims to enhance accessibility and integration for persons with disabilities through improved physical environments, digital platforms, and communication methods, ultimately contributing to a national guide for inclusive cultural activities.
