Hisham Abdel Hamid addressed the controversy surrounding his potential return to Egypt following a ten-year absence. He clarified that he moved to Canada in 2010, lived in Istanbul to host a cultural program, and returned to Canada in 2022. Abdel Hamid denied allegations of insulting the state, stating his work in Istanbul focused on defending intellectual figures and cinema despite opposition from religious extremists. His absence was previously linked to political opposition, which led the Actors Syndicate to strike his name from its membership rolls, a decision upheld by a court ruling. Separately, Ahmed Helmy discussed his return to the stage and upcoming film projects. Following recognition at the Dhofar International Theatre Festival, Helmy noted he has been returning to theatre over the last three years and is preparing a fourth production. He also provided updates on two upcoming films, ‘Hadouta’ and ‘Ad’af Khalqih’, while noting the challenges of coordinating schedules with his wife, actress Mona Zaki. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-02: Ahmed Helmy discusses theatre return and new film projects Egyptian actor Ahmed Helmy discussed his return to theatre, his upcoming films ‘Hadouta’ and ‘Ad’af Khalqih’, and his recent honor at the Dhofar International Theatre Festival. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ahmed-helmy-discusses-theatre-return-and-new-film-projects ### 2026-09-17: Hisham Abdel Hamid addresses potential return to Egypt Actor Hisham Abdel Hamid has addressed rumors of his return to Egypt after a decade abroad, denying allegations of political misconduct and clarifying his residency in Canada and Turkey. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/hisham-abdel-hamid-addresses-potential-return-to-egypt --- Cite as: Egyptian actors career and public developments.
