# Electricity infrastructure vandalism in Nigeria

In late July 2026, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported the vandalism of six 330kV transmission towers on the Yola–Jalingo line. The sabotage involved the removal of approximately 130 critical bracing members, which compromised the structural integrity of the line. Following a joint operation between the TCN and the Nigeria Police Force, a principal suspect was arrested and some stolen components were recovered.

Later in August 2026, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Adamawa State Command arrested two individuals, Kukuya Yakubu and Rabiu Haruna, for the alleged vandalism of the 33KV Hong–Garaha network line. Investigations indicated the suspects had removed roughly 500 metres of 150mm Aluminium Conductor Cable (ACC) with the intention of selling the materials to scavengers.
