According to Insider Gaming, a project codenamed ‘Moneyball’ had progressed past pre-production before being abandoned approximately one year prior. While EA had not officially confirmed a cancellation, the current iteration of the reboot was reportedly defunct. However, by October 2026, Electronic Arts officially announced the return of the franchise, ending a hiatus of approximately 15 years since the release of Fight Night Champion in 2011. Using the message “To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back,” the company confirmed the project via a new official EA Sports Fight Night social media account. At the time of the announcement, specific details regarding platforms, gameplay, or a release window remained undisclosed, and it remains unclear if the project will be a new installment, a remake, or a remaster. Industry observers have noted that the timing of this revival coincides with Electronic Arts being partially owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. This ownership shift aligns with Saudi Arabia’s growing involvement in professional boxing through initiatives such as the Riyadh Season. Analysts suggest this follows a period where EA focused combat sports resources on the UFC franchise due to the complex licensing requirements of individual professional boxers. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: EA Sports announces return of Fight Night boxing franchise EA Sports has officially announced the return of its Fight Night boxing franchise after a 15-year hiatus, though specific details on release dates and platforms remain unconfirmed. 26 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/electronic-arts-announces-return-of-fight-night-franchise ### 2026-09-21: Electronic Arts reportedly cancels Fight Night revival Electronic Arts has reportedly cancelled its planned Fight Night revival after the project progressed past pre-production, ending years of intermittent development efforts. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/electronic-arts-reportedly-cancels-fight-night-revival --- Cite as: Electronic Arts Fight Night franchise status.
