The couple shared that a 20-week anatomy scan revealed the infant had anencephaly, a fatal condition involving the failure of major portions of the brain, skull, or scalp to develop. While the couple expressed profound devastation, they noted the importance of their brief time together. Anna Bernhard stated, “Though his time with us was brief, his life still precious, his purpose still meaningful, and he will forever be a part of our story.”
