Tierra del Fuego officials have initiated plans to expand energy and logistics infrastructure in Ushuaia. The provincial government presented a project to transform the Port of Ushuaia into a clean-energy terminal, aiming to install shore-side electricity and green-fuel supplies to reduce vessel emissions and improve competitiveness as an Antarctic gateway.

Parallel to the port developments, local authorities have begun the physical implementation of new energy infrastructure. Following the delivery of 6,200 tons of equipment from China, the project has progressed with an investment exceeding $80 million, driven by private Chinese capital in partnership with local entities. Governor Gustavo Melella and Ushuaia Mayor Walter Vuoto recently inspected the construction site of the new power generation plant.

Once completed, the plant is expected to provide between 60 and 100 megawatts of capacity to support local businesses, tourism, and prevent power outages for several decades. During recent site visits, regional leaders also addressed broader concerns in Tierra del Fuego, including energy supply stability, job losses, and sovereignty issues regarding the construction of a new Integrated Naval Base in the area.
