Energy companies are undertaking significant infrastructure investments in Spain and Portugal to modernize electrical networks and expand electric vehicle support.

Iberdrola | bp pulse has secured bank financing of approximately €130 million, with the option to increase the total to €230 million, to accelerate the rollout of high-power public charging stations. Arranged via a club-deal with ING, Rabobank, the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO), and Kutxabank, this is described as the largest financing for e-mobility in the Iberian Peninsula. The funding aims to expand the existing network of over 2,500 high-power charging points using 100% renewable electricity over the next three to five years.

Furthering its expansion, Iberdrola | bp pulse has entered an agreement with Disfrimur to double charging capacity at a logistics base in San Isidro and install new high-power stations in Ribarroja and Plaza. These new stations will utilize Combined Charging System (CCS) technology reaching 600 kW and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology exceeding 1,000 kW, designed to recharge heavy transport batteries from 10% to 80% in roughly 30 minutes. Additionally, a partnership with Electromaps will allow Spanish drivers to locate and pay for charging sessions in Portugal via a single application to improve cross-border mobility.

Concurrently, Endesa is investing in grid reinforcement projects within Spain. This includes a €65,000 investment in Bolonia to renew low-voltage networks for the tourism sector and a €650,000 project in Portbou to construct a medium-voltage underground line. The Portbou project aims to improve supply continuity for approximately 1,400 clients and modernize transformation centers with remote control capabilities to reduce disruptions by an estimated 20%.
