The Bolivian telecommunications company Entel has expanded its technological footprint through infrastructure upgrades, national security initiatives, and support for emerging digital ecosystems.

Following the receipt of the Maya 2026 Award for ‘Innovation and leadership in telecommunications and digital technology,’ the company began implementing 5G technology in the historic city center of Tarija. This progressive rollout aims to alleviate congestion caused by the saturation and collapse of the 4G network in the area, allowing compatible devices to migrate automatically.

Entel has also advanced the ‘Bolivia Cibersegura 2026’ project to establish a national cybersecurity agenda. Working alongside the Electronic Government and Information and Communication Technologies Agency (AGETIC) and the Telecommunications and Transport Regulation and Supervision Authority (ATT), the company is strengthening ‘CSIRT Bolivia.’ This specialized team is designed to enhance national capacities for responding to cyber threats. Jorge Francisco del Solar, general manager of ENTEL, emphasized that cybersecurity must be treated as a “national agenda through institutional cooperation.” The initiative continues to utilize International Telecommunication Union (ITU) expertise to provide training and experience exchange aimed at protecting personal data and critical infrastructure.

Expanding its role in the digital economy, Entel has positioned itself as a technological partner for the digital asset ecosystem at the Blockchain 2040 event in Santa Cruz. The company aims to provide the infrastructure necessary for cryptocurrency transactions through secure connectivity and high-capacity networks. Yerko Vargas, ENTEL’s Corporate Business Assistant Manager, stated that the company offers cybersecurity solutions, including protection against DDoS attacks, and provides secure hosting via its Tier III Data Center.
