Developments: 2. The local government elections in Enugu State, conducted by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), resulted in mixed reports regarding voter participation and electoral conduct. While Governor Peter Mbah and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) characterized the exercise as largely peaceful with significant turnout in specific areas, other reports indicated widespread voter apathy. Residents attributed low participation to a lack of awareness and the perception that results were predetermined. Logistical challenges were noted, including the late arrival of electoral materials and the absence of original result sheets at some polling units. The election relied on manual accreditation and thumb printing rather than BVAS technology. Additionally, observers from ActionAid Nigeria raised concerns regarding security in rural regions and the necessity for transparency during the collation process. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Enugu State holds local government elections amid mixed turnout Enugu State held local government elections with mixed results, featuring reports of both peaceful participation and significant voter apathy, logistical delays, and concerns over transparency. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/enugu-state-local-government-elections-face-low-turnout-and-irregularities ### 2026-08-28: Anambra State holds local government elections amid security preparations Anambra State officials have confirmed no movement restrictions for the August 29 local government elections, while police have increased security presence to ensure a peaceful voting process. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/anambra-state-holds-local-government-elections-amid-security-preparations --- Cite as: Enugu State local government elections.
