Environmental activism and resource protection efforts have emerged across Mexico and Bolivia. In Mexico, activists in Querétaro have petitioned the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transport to prevent the removal of historic trees during the construction of the Mexico-Querétaro passenger train. In the State of Mexico, the ‘Guardabosques Atlautla Unidos’ collective has organized patrols to combat illegal logging and has requested increased surveillance from agencies such as PROBOSQUE and PROPAEM.

Further concerns in Mexico involve wildlife protection in Veracruz, where administrators of the Akga’Pun Kitsis’Tanka Ecological Park reported the disappearance of a jaguar following an unsupervised inspection by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (Profepa).

In Bolivia, environmental groups in Oruro have launched the ‘Evaluate to Advance’ campaign. These protesters are demanding the protection of Cerro Santa Bárbara and the Poopó and Uru Uru lakes, while calling for an end to illegal mining and the preservation of local thermal heritage.
