In the coastal area of Miraflores, authorities have issued alerts regarding coastal erosion along the Costa Verde. This deterioration has undermined pedestrian crossings and safety barriers, with officials noting that a utility pole recently slid into the sand at La Pampilla beach, exposing the vulnerability of the roadway. In the high-altitude regions, ecological instability is threatening water resources. In Huaraz province, the AGOEMA Guide Association has reported that the Willcacocha lagoon is potentially being drained by local community members using heavy machinery to expand agricultural land. Additionally, in Huanta, water levels in the Razuhuillca lagoons are declining due to scarce rainfall and recent forest fires, threatening the water supply for local populations, agriculture, and livestock. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-27: Environmental concerns rise over Peruvian lagoons Environmental threats are facing Peruvian lagoons, including alleged illegal drainage at Willcacocha and water level reductions in Razuhuillca due to drought and forest fires. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/environmental-concerns-rise-over-peruvian-lagoons ### 2026-10-13: Environmental threats impact infrastructure in Peru and Iguazú Falls Coastal erosion in Peru's Costa Verde and rising river levels at Iguazú Falls are forcing authorities to implement emergency infrastructure protections and dismantle walkways to prevent damage. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/environmental-threats-impact-infrastructure-in-peru-and-iguaz-falls --- Cite as: Environmental and infrastructure threats in Peru.
