In Sines, Portugal, an Environmental Justice Meeting brought together researchers, unions, and civic movements to address environmental and labor concerns along the Alentejo coast.

The proceedings, which originated in Melides, focused on the impacts of intensive agriculture, water scarcity, and real estate speculation. Participants also raised alarms regarding the pressure exerted by large-scale mining, tourism, and energy projects, alongside issues of labor precariousness.

The event concluded with a plenary session for grassroots collectives and a demonstration through the streets of Sines, following debates on the future of the region and the premiere of the documentary ‘Litoral Alentejano: Zona de Sacrifício’.
