Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, is advocating for European Union intervention to address a crisis in the chemical sector. Alongside France and the Netherlands, Italy is pushing to include the chemical industry in the Industrial Accelerator Act to preserve production capacity and restore competitiveness.

Urso has argued that existing measures, such as the Chemicals Industry Action Plan and the EU Critical Chemicals Alliance (CCA), are insufficient. He is calling for pragmatic results, including the use of the CCA’s list of critical molecules to guide policy and the strengthening of trade defense tools for strategic substances.

Proposed support measures include utilizing the future European Competitiveness Fund to assist the industrial transition of non-competitive strategic production plants and integrating biochemistry into the upcoming Circular Economy Act.
