The European Athletics Council has announced several host cities for upcoming major championships. Toruń, Poland, has been selected to host the 40th European Athletics Indoor Championships in March 2029 at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena. Sebastian Chmara, President of the Polish Athletics Association, stated that the selection “confirms Poland’s status as a continental leader in organizing major athletics events.”

Helsinki, Finland, has been awarded the 2030 European Athletics Championships, which will be held at the renovated Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Helsinki beat Brussels in the final selection process to secure the event, which will mark the fourth time the Finnish capital has hosted the championships.

While the selection is considered a major sporting milestone, local discussions have emerged regarding projected costs. Estimates suggest the city may face expenses between 5 and 6 million euros, driven in part by necessary stadium renovations and state support structures.
