Consumer testing under the LIFE ToxFree project across several European countries, including Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, has identified hazardous chemicals in various everyday items. Findings included bisphenols in a significant portion of underwear samples and children’s UV-protection t-shirts, as well as phthalates and bisphenols in all tested headphone samples.

In response to health concerns regarding bisphenols, the European Union has implemented a ban on Bisphenol A (BPA) in food-contact materials, such as can coatings, water bottles, and kitchenware. To prevent the substitution of BPA with other harmful substances, the regulation also targets BPS and BPF. This legislative action follows a European Food Safety Authority assessment identifying BPA as an endocrine disruptor that poses health risks to all age groups.
