Cities in Germany and France have begun announcing details for their 2026 Christmas markets.

Dresden has scheduled its historic Striezelmarkt to run from November 25 to December 24. Other local seasonal events include the ‘Dresdner Winterlichter’ on Prager Straße, featuring a Ferris wheel and ice rink, a ‘Finn Village’ at Dr.-Külz-Ring, and a Medieval Christmas market at the Dresden Residenzschloss Stallhof, running from November 25 to December 23.

In France, the Strasbourg Christmas market is set to open on November 27 and run through December 24. The event features approximately 300 chalets across 11 sites, including Place Kléber and Place Broglie. The market is a vital economic driver; in 2025, it hosted 3.05 million visitors, with some local merchants generating between 30% and 40% of their annual turnover during the season. However, municipal authorities are addressing security concerns regarding the city’s 30-meter-tall Christmas tree at Place Kléber following violent demonstrations and looting on October 17. First deputy mayor Mathieu Cahn stated the city will remain attentive to the tree’s protection.

Meanwhile, Mulhouse is focusing on Rhenish traditions and cross-border cultural exchange involving German, Swiss, and Alsatian influences. A dedicated space at Place de la Réunion will feature tourism information from neighboring countries, while culinary offerings will include regional specialties such as pretzels, currywurst, and the Basel biscuit, läckerli.
