European football clubs are increasingly focusing on the expansion and professionalization of their youth development sectors and coaching structures.

In Italy, Cagliari Calcio has presented its 2026-2027 youth sector, which includes over 250 athletes across ten teams. The club’s CEO, Stefano Melis, noted that eight current first-team players originated from the youth sector. Additionally, Polisportiva Garino has reported growth in women’s football and hosts the international Europe Garino Cup for 12-year-old female players.

Efforts to bridge the gap between youth and senior levels continue in Germany and Italy. FC Ingolstadt 04 appointed Fabian Reichler to lead its U21 team to strengthen the connection to the senior professional squad. Meanwhile, FC Südtirol is expanding its youth sector to develop talent for Serie B, highlighting players such as 17-year-old Elias Schrott, who has already made a professional debut.
