Major art exhibitions dedicated to Henri Matisse are launching across Europe. 

In Italy, the MUDEC (Museo delle Culture) is hosting “Matisse. Il mondo in una stanza,” an exhibition running from October 2026 to February 2027. This display features approximately 100 works from institutions like MoMA and the Musée d’Orsay, alongside African, Islamic, Russian, Chinese, and Pacific artifacts to illustrate the artist’s connection to non-European cultures. Meanwhile, in Germany, the Phoenix des Lumières has launched “Matisse: Symphonie der Farben,” an immersive show using large-scale projections to examine his use of color.

In the Netherlands, the H'ART Museum in Amsterdam is preparing for “Chez Matisse - Masterpieces from Centre Pompidou.” Opening on October 3, the retrospective features 37 works on loan from the Centre Pompidou, including the rarely loaned “La Blouse Roumaine.” The exhibition also includes works by contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso, Barnett Newman, and Mark Rothko.
