The European Parliament has officially renamed and dedicated a building in Brussels to honor the legacy of former President David Sassoli. The ceremony, held on September 29, 2026, at the Esplanade Solidarność 1980, included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.

Sassoli, an Italian journalist and politician, served as President of the European Parliament from July 2019 until his death in January 2022. Officials noted his leadership in maintaining democratic continuity and digital operations during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The building, formerly known as the Treves building, was chosen for this dedication to integrate Sassoli’s legacy of communication and public dialogue into the daily decision-making processes of the European institutions. Parliament President Roberta Metsola and representatives for Italian President Sergio Mattarella participated in the commemoration.
