# European pond turtle conservation in Poland

After a female European pond turtle laid 23 eggs on a roadside in Poland’s Bagno Nadrowskie nature reserve, conservationists intervened to protect the clutch. The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection ordered the eggs to be moved to the Mazurian Centre for Biodiversity and Education at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Biology to prevent their destruction.

Following the transfer, the eggs were placed under controlled temperatures for incubation. By late August, the hatchlings successfully emerged and began being raised in terrariums. Herpetologist Grzegorz Górecki indicated that once the young turtles have grown sufficiently, they will be returned to the Bagno Nadrowskie reserve.
