Reports indicate that 45 percent of European employees face psychological risks, with work-related depression costing the EU over 100 billion euros annually due to absenteeism and lost productivity. In response to these challenges, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) has launched the ‘Together for mental health at work 2026-2028’ campaign. During the European Week for Safety and Health at Work, discussions have highlighted how factors such as lack of autonomy and constant digital connectivity contribute to mental health issues. Legislative efforts are also emerging, such as in Spain, where a draft bill addressing psychosocial risks is being considered alongside ongoing labor law reforms. Data suggests that approximately 26 percent of common mental disorders among the working population can be attributed to adverse working conditions. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Mental health risks in the workplace highlighted during European Safety Week The European Week for Safety and Health at Work highlights psychosocial risks like lack of autonomy and constant connectivity as major drivers of workplace mental health issues. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/mental-health-risks-in-the-workplace-highlighted-during-european-safety-week ### 2026-10-16: Workplace stress and declining standards impact European productivity Workplace issues including declining organizational standards and rising mental health risks are impacting productivity, with work-related depression costing the EU over 100 billion euros annually. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/workplace-stress-and-declining-standards-impact-european-productivity --- Cite as: European workplace mental health and productivity.
