Authorities in eastern Libya, under the General Command led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, have carried out multiple executions following terrorism-related convictions. Initially, the Military Prosecutor’s Office announced the execution of 10 individuals by firing squad for offenses including membership in prohibited organizations and the assassination of military and civilian personnel.

Following these events, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed “deep” concern over more than 30 executions conducted in the eastern region in recent weeks. UNSMIL has urged authorities to “immediately suspend” new executions and called for a “thorough and credible review” of cases to address human rights concerns. 

The Government of National Unity in western Libya also condemned the death penalty applications, stating that judicial procedures operating outside a unified national authority contribute to “recurrent violations” of the law.
