Developments in digital payment infrastructure have focused on expanding cross-border QR code interoperability through partnerships involving Ant International’s Alipay+.

In the Philippines, Philippine Payments Management, Inc. (PPMI) and Alipay+ enabled the use of international e-wallets and banking apps via the QR Ph network, allowing local merchants to accept these payments without new infrastructure. 

Expanding on this interoperability, TerraPay and Alipay+ announced a strategic partnership to facilitate cross-border QR payments using TerraPay’s Xend network. This collaboration aims to enhance global payment capabilities across Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. The initial rollout connects 15 African digital wallets to the Alipay+ ecosystem, allowing users to scan QR codes at over 150 million merchants worldwide using their domestic wallets.
