In Kwara State, the government and the Society for Family Health (SFH) have reaffirmed their commitment to providing affordable and uninterrupted family planning services. To combat commodity shortages and improve maternal and child health, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq approved funding for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) basket fund to ensure the availability of supplies at health facilities.

On a broader scale, the SFH concluded its IntegratE 2.0 Project, which reached 1.7 million women across 11 Nigerian states. The initiative utilized trained community pharmacists and patent and proprietary medicine vendors to expand healthcare access. In addition to family planning, the project provided malaria testing and treatment for over 1.18 million children, which is estimated to have averted approximately 15,000 under-five deaths. Stakeholders have emphasized the necessity of sustainability to maintain coverage in underserved communities.

Expanding these efforts, the UNFPA is currently collaborating with regional partners to enhance maternal and reproductive health services. In Nigeria, the UNFPA is supporting Bauchi State in delivering effective family planning programs. This initiative focuses on stakeholder training regarding a “human rights-based approach” to ensure women and girls can access reproductive health services and exercise their rights within health facilities.

Building on the IntegratE Project's legacy, the SFH has officially transferred the initiative to the Kano State Government. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the project focused on strengthening the capacity of community healthcare providers. In Kano, more than 6,500 Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) and community pharmacists were trained and mapped, enabling over 500,000 women and children under five to access care. The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, stated the government is committed to ensuring the continued utilization of these trained personnel to provide quality, people-centered healthcare.
