Developments: 2. A fatal head-on collision on the BR-373 highway in Paraná, involving a semi-truck and a microbus from the Imbituva Health Department, resulted in 23 deaths. The accident occurred on August 19 when the truck crossed into the opposite lane, striking the bus while it was transporting patients to medical appointments in Curitiba. The Civil Police of Paraná has concluded its investigation, attributing the crash to a combination of factors involving both vehicles. The truck, which was transporting swine, was traveling at 80 km/h in a 60 km/h zone and exhibited brake wear that reduced its stopping efficiency. Investigators also noted the truck driver had accessed WhatsApp approximately 17 minutes before the impact, suggesting potential distraction. The microbus was also speeding, traveling at 101 km/h at the moment of impact, which was 41 km/h over the legal limit. Toxicology reports for both drivers were negative for alcohol and drugs. Because both drivers died in the accident, police have suggested the archiving of the inquiry. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-07: Paraná police conclude investigation into fatal BR-373 collision An investigation into the BR-373 accident that killed 23 people found that both a truck and a micro-bus were speeding and that the truck driver likely used WhatsApp before the fatal collision. 14 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/paran-police-link-driver-negligence-to-fatal-br-373-collision ### 2026-10-02: Ipiranga police await final report on fatal 23-death collision Police await a final forensic report to conclude the investigation into a fatal collision in Ipiranga, Brazil, which killed 23 people in August. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/ipiranga-police-await-final-report-on-fatal-23-death-collision --- Cite as: Fatal BR-373 highway collision in Paraná.
